This exhibit explores the "visual shorthand" of comic art and how speed lines and other graphics are used to convey emotions and ideas. Exhibit runs till August 11, 2008. Museum closed on Tuesdays in winter.

Schulz commented when interviewed that when he created a sports themed strip it was not dealing with sports but a springboard for many important life's themes like hope, perseverance,humiliation and leadership. Exhibit runs till 11/3/2008. Museum closed on Tuesdays except Memorial Day through Labor Day.

In Peanuts there are many instances of people(and a few things!) that never appear in the strip. Adults, The Red Baron, The Little Red Haired Girl to name a few. Exhibit runs through July 13, 2008(museum closed on Tuesdays till summer)

About the Instructor: Born in 1972 on the island of Madeira, hundreds of miles south of Portugal in the North Atlantic Ocean, Elio Camacho immigrated to California with his family in 1975. Long an admirer of the master impressionists such as Bongart, Sorrolla, and Fechin, in his mid-twenties Camacho decided to follow his childhood passion of fine art. Intensive studies with Ovanes Berberian led to the development of distinct representational style with abstract brush work. All of his paintings are in the Alla Prima style to capture the first impression and light on a given subject. He has currently exhibiting in 13 galleries throughout the Western United States.

Putting passion and emotion into a painting is far more important then just making a copy of your subject. Each time I paint my goal is to capture the particular mood of the moment and to express myself in a bold and colorful way and while capturing the beauty and spontaneity of nature.

If you have similar goals and want to learn to fill your canvases with color and boldness then this class may be for you.

My goal as an instructor is to give my students the foundation necessary to express themselves .

Each class will start with a demonstration, followed by individual instruction at each student’s easel.

Continuing students receive a 15% discount for the following month.

Note: Although the class ends at 2:00, on most days I will remain to paint. Students are welcome to stay and paint or watch. (Don't forget a comfortable chair if you choose to remain and watch)

While we always hope for rain free days the reality is during the winter it may rain. Currently, we have one covered location and I am always scouting for indoor or covered painting locations.

July 03rd, 2008 - Free Film and Media Literacy Workshops

Take advantage of free Film and Media Literacy Workshops offered exclusively to youth groups (ages 13-24). The purpose of these workshops is to further media education and film appreciation through the non-profit Ninth Street Independent Film Center organizations. These established media arts groups have each been around for 30 years or more. They offer such a valuable service at no cost because they realize that future success depends on youth who are knowledgeable, informed and enriched through multiple literacies. The free workshops are easy to implement! Just call or email the Youth Programs Coordinator, Skye Christensen, at your earliest convenience.

Always on a Sunday and every full moon you can find great live music at Red Hill. Search the shelves or sit down with a cup of wine, a neighborly cheeseplate of delectables, let the kids browse the board books, and enjoy your Sunday afternoon with some of the best music by the best musicians San Francisco has to offer. All shows are from 3 to 5 pm.

On the evening of the full moon we put a bunch of great books on sale and invite you to a fabulous free concert.

Craig Ventresco and Meredith Axelrod

In a hunt for something even more charming than painted eggs? For many years Craig Ventresco led the San Francisco-based band Bo Grumpus and has played most of the trad jazz festivals. He has also toured widely as a soloist specializing in ragtime-era compositions. He is featured on the soundtracks to films "Crumb" and "Ghostworld." Craig is a compulsive record collector specializing in ragtime on cylinders and discs made before 1910. Since moving to New York two years ago, he has played with a number of trad jazz bands. Recent recording credits include discs for Origin Jazz Library, Stomp Off, Rydodisc and Shanachie.
Meredith Axelrod is Meredith Axelrod! Here is some information germane to a "bio": "I perform regularly with the great Craig Ventresco and as a singer and guitarist for Devine's Jug Band. Venues at which I've performed include: the Great American Music Hall, The Freight and Salvage, The Bottom of the Hill, The JCC, Ashkenaz, The Starry Plough, Amnesia, the Makeout Room, Red Hill Books, The UCSF Library Concert Series, the West Coast Ragtime Festival, the Blind Boone Ragtime Festival. I performed for a segment of the local news, and I was interviewed with Dennis Pash on KUSF radio.

Gaucho

Gaucho began as a Gypsy Jazz trio in 2002 but has now grown to the size of a sextet and has brought the styles of Klezmer, Brazialian Choros, Swing, New Orleans and Roots styles as well as modern day melodies of relevence. Dave Ricketts-guitarist/bandleader, Rob Reich-accordion, Mike Groh-guitar, Ralph Carney-horns, Pete Devine-drums and Ari Munkres on bass.

Knuckle Knockers

Hailing from the hayseed neighborhood of Bernal Heights in San Francisco, the Knunkle Knockers can't wait to play you their favorite vintage and original songs and fiddle tunes. The Knuc Knocs stoke the fires of the Appalachian music tradition to give you a glimpse of the past through the eyes of the present, with voice, fiddles, mandolin, guitar and 5-string banjo. Bill's nimble and masterful playing, Stairwell Sisters' stalwart Martha's crisp guitar work and voice that's the envy of the trailer park, and Karen's emotive playing that's a confluence of the past and the playful, all go neck and neck, knuckle to knuckle on lightning dance tunes, fire and brimstone, and magical harmonies. July 07th, 2008 - 'DRAWING ON PERCEPTION' drawing intensive workshop

Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11: 9AM to 5:30PM

Faculty: Sandy Walker, Laura Harden, Lon Clark

The Drawing Intensive is comprised of five non-stop days filled with in-depth concentration on the nature of drawing. The workshop will explore perception as an alternative to academic preconceptions of drawing, the vital potentials of the picture plane, discovering light and space, scale, the quest for form, understanding visual metaphor and difference between pictorial and narrative concept. Presentations, exercises and the constant activity of drawing in very small and very large formats as well as different media will dramatically advance understanding of drawing and its potentials. Related disciplines such as painting, mixed media and photography will be referenced to explicate the essential qualities of drawing. The Drawing Intensive will transform one's understanding of the process of seeing. It will accelerate participants' understanding of essential issues related to drawing as structure and as an ongoing preoccupation for the artist through many forms and media. Models will be present throughout the workshop.

Tuition: $875/5 days + $30 Registration Fee. Model fees included. A non-refundable deposit of $300 and the $30 registration fee due at time of registration. Space is limited, early registration is suggested.
