H*A*S*H (Help Artists Stay Home) Relief Fund was originally founded under the name “Bay Area Performers” by artists Jordan Bontrgaer and Edna Mira Raia in March of 2020 in response to the COVID-19 shelter-in-place mandates, which forced a complete loss of livelihood for most artist-related industries in the Bay Area. This group was formed to assist over one hundred artists with their most basic costs of living in one of the most expensive areas of the world. The team is now led by Edna Mira Raia and Diego Gómez.
Every donation, of course, will help make an impact. The original Bay Area Performers GoFundMe campaign raised $5,090 – we are now seeking to increase this support with matching tax-deductible donations from individuals and corporate donors. Our goal is to issue a grant to each selected artist that is enough to help pay a portion of their rent in the coming months. After IAM’s fiscal sponsorship fees, all funds will be split evenly between the artists.
Donations may be sent through our GoFundMe Campaign, the Donation Button on this webpage, or paper check mailed and made payable to Independent Arts & Media.
After a public outreach campaign and application process, the artists being supported include event planners, audio and visual designers, educators, musicians, physical performers and the like. These artists have local & international experience. Our list has comedians who have performed on HBO and the Magic Castle in LA, performers featured at places like Davies Symphony Hall and Buckingham Palace, musicians who have rocked The Fillmore and even the Akropolis in Prague, and artists who have displayed work at the De Young Museum and the Palais du Tokyo in France.
