Unlearn everything you thought you knew about economics!
Upstream is a bold new podcast that invites you to unlearn everything you thought you knew about economics. It was founded in 2016 by Della Duncan and Robert Raymond with the goal of making economics more accessible and broadening the traditional understanding of what economics is. Many of our societal and planetary problems can be traced back to our current economic system – and although sometimes it may seem like there are no alternatives, it is Upstream’s intention to demonstrate that there is. They do this through hour long episodes featuring informative and candid interviews, rich sound design, field recordings, great music, and touching narratives. Upstream weave’s together audio documentaries that take listeners to the heart of our economic system, where they explore a variety of different themes and topics that might leave inspire you to join the movement towards an economy that works towards the wellbeing of people and planet.
Upstream also offers an Economics for Transition workshop series that is based on Joanna Macy’s “Work that Reconnects.” These workshops enable participants to find gratitude for their gifts and contributions to society, honor the pain the current economic system has caused them and other living beings, practice seeing economics with new eyes by exploring systems theory and the Buddhist concept of Right Livelihood, and to view economics from the lens of the ecological paradigm.
