Deputy Director of Finance
IAM is currently accepting applications for a Deputy Director of Finance. This is an exempt, full-time W2 employee position, eligible for health benefits, retirement benefits, accrued Vacation and Paid Sick Leave, and a paid one-week winter break. Anticipated Salary: $110,000 to $125,000, commensurate with experience.
The Deputy Director of Finance will work directly with IAM's Executive Director and financial management team to oversee IAM’s day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, reporting, and grants management. This position is an integral part of our tight-knit team that celebrates the independent, community-driven, and collaborative spirit of our mission.
This is a dynamic hybrid position with time split between working remotely, the IAM office in San Francisco, and potential site visits with Affiliate projects; candidates will be encouraged to work at least two days a week in IAM’s office at the Pacific Felt Factory (2830 20th Street, San Francisco). Offsite work hours will be coordinated with the Executive Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee development, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate financial policies and procedures; ensure accuracy of financial data entry in accordance with GAAP
- Lead and manage day-to-day financial operations including a team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, and grants management
- Support IAM’s fiscally sponsored projects to successfully navigate our financial management systems
- Conduct quality control across all financial systems
- Generate and distribute accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for IAM’s fiscally sponsored projects, Executive Director, and the Board of Director
- Manage the annual audit
- Oversee successful implementation and maintenance of appropriate accounting software
- Supervise the administration of payroll functions and reconciliation in compliance with all local, state, and Federal regulations
- Manage workers compensation audits
- Support Executive Director with the yearly insurance renewal process and compliance
- Additional projects as assigned by ED.
Qualifications
- Strong desire to support IAM’s mission
- Minimum 5 years experience in a non-profit accounting and/or financial management position
- Demonstrated understanding of non-profit accounting principles, cost allocation procedures, and internal controls
- Demonstrated experience managing small teams (3-5 people)
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to interact with a diverse community of artists, media producers, journalists, culture-makers, administrators, educators, funders, and organizational partners
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Proficient with Quickbooks Online
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, Google Suite, Zoom, and cloud-based record-management systems (Google Drive, Dropbox, Box)
- Comfortable learning new technologies
- Preferred skills, but not mandatory:
- Knowledge of fiscal sponsorship services
- Knowledge of Gusto or similar online payroll system

Working Conditions
- Full-time, exempt W2 employee position for approximately 30-40 hours per week
- Currently living in the Bay Area or willing to relocate
- This is a hybrid position: flexible hours, split time between working remotely, IAM office in San Francisco, and potential site visits with Affiliate projects
- Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
Compensation
- Salary commensurate with experience: anticipated annual salary between $110,000 to $125,000
- Employee is eligible for health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision
- Accrued Vacation PTO and Paid Sick Leave, plus one week paid time off between December 25th to January 1st
- Monthly remote work stipend
- Eligible for 401(k) plan after six months
