Building on the Clarion Alley Mural Project’s artist residencies and cultural exchanges, Sama Sama/Together (2002) and Bangkit/Arise (2018), artists and organizers Megan Wilson and Christopher Statton continue this collaborative work through Bersama Kita Bangkit.
Working directly with communities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and San Francisco, USA, Bersama Kita Bangkit creates art rooted in community knowledge, lived experience, and shared perspectives. While the project began with mural-making, its ongoing engagement with diverse communities has expanded its forms of expression to include posters, performances, and zines.
By exploring identity across cultures, the project creates space to consider both the differences that shape us and the commonalities that connect us. Through collective artistic practice and cross-cultural exchange, Bersama Kita Bangkit challenges assumptions about what art can be and how it can reflect the ways we each experience, understand, and navigate the world.
